*Why We Must All Fight for the Dream Act.* By repealing DACA – Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals – Trump has endangered both these young immigrants and the economic security of America. In 2012, the Obama administration created DACA as a temporary way to address the needs of young people who came to America as infants or toddlers, and know no other country. To apply and qualify for DACA, these young people had to risk entering the system by giving their identifying information. *Globe and Mail*: *Quebec bans face covering in public services, raising worries among Muslims* Quebec has adopted a law that will force people to show their faces when taking the bus or borrowing a book from the library, pushing ahead with legislation that is being criticized for targeting Muslim Canadian women. Bill 62, which the Justice Minister described as a North American first, requires one's face to be uncovered when giving or receiving public services. The law marks the outcome of a contentious, decade-long debate about the place of religious minorities in Quebec. Detail... more »

MISSISSIPPI SCHOOL IS NAMED FOR OBAMA, AND FOX FANS ARE ABOUT AS PLEASED AS YOU'D EXPECT

Steve M. at No More Mister Nice Blog - 17 hours ago
At FoxNews.com, the top trending story in the country isn't about the president's interactions with Gold Star families -- it's this: A Mississippi school is shedding the name of the Confederacy's only president and will instead be named for the first African-American president of the United States. Davis International Baccalaureate Elementary School in Jackson was named decades ago for Jefferson Davis. The school with 98 percent African-American enrollment is set to be renamed for Barack Obama in the next academic year, in a move proposed by parents and approved by a majority of st... more »

[image: cutting-salt-from-the-federal-tax-diet] In the quest for a better tax code, it shouldn't be difficult to agree that a tax deduction that mostly benefits rich people and subsidizes high-tax state and local governments must go. That's what the state and local tax, or SALT, deduction does.

A Total Screw Up

Owen Gray at Northern Reflections - 17 hours ago
Surely, no man has screwed up more consistently -- and spectacularly -- than Donald Trump. Witness his treatment of the family of a dead soldier. Richard Wolfe writes: This week the commander-in-chief has somehow contrived to drive to tears the grieving mother of one of his own special forces. Along the way, he boasted about his own outreach to gold star families, and defamed his predecessors’ record on the same. All the while he shows no sympathy or urgency about millions of his own citizens struggling for several weeks without food, water and power in Puerto Rico. Hugging peopl... more »

5 Super Weapons the U.S. Military Never Built (That Would Have Dominated the Battlefield)

*Robert Farley* *Security, * What a shame. *The effect of the B-70 on the Air Force would have, on balance, been quite negative. Devoting tremendous resources to the procurement of another strategic bomber would have drawn attention away from both the tactical air force and the missile force. B-70s might (in desperation) have been committed to the bombing of Vietnam during Operations Linebacker I and II, but they would likely have performed no more effectively than the B-52s they were replacing. And both the B-52 and the B-1B have proven remarkably flexible in terms of missions... more »

The U.S. Military's Worst Fear: What if Its Nuclear Weapons Don't Work in a War?

Aside from the many serious questions about necessity and cost, the question of reliability lingers. From my perspective the fifth dimension would be orthogonal to the three we understand or perhaps orthogonal to the time dimension. The latter makes sense as it plausibly is the one best manipulated by conspicuousness. We already know that it is likely that we can manipulate time, this simply makes it part of out conscious capability or mindfulness. Yet i also suspect that deep maturity is necessary for this and that few will be able to do this or have permission. I for one consider gun control a complete waste of time and resources. However i do think that mandatory weapons training for all who wish to buy and to own a weapon is worthwhile. Just as self restraint training with martial arts. I would apply this to all farm boys in particular. Then i would insist on a refresher every five years in which the person and his reflexes are checked out. Thus all gun owners can be expected to be very safe and responsible with weapons. I suspect that the Swiss essentially do that. Having all weapons secured under lock and key at a range is ... more »
