Never have so many pundits played it so dumb in so many ways. In part, pundits are ducking the role of the New York Times in this peculiar episode. Consider: It’s mid-July, 2015. Joe Biden tells Maureen Dowd a story about his late son, Beau Biden. Or maybe Hunter Biden told Dowd, saying he was in the room when the conversation in question occurred. The Islamic State’s New Car Bomb Campaign In Iraq’s Diyala

Baghdad, Anbar and Salahaddin account for the vast majority of the Islamic State’s car bombings, but Diyala has become a new target of the latest vehicle borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) campaign launched by IS in July. Today there is nearly a car bomb a week in that province. Diyala is important because it is not only a victim of the new IS wave, but it is also a base for attacks into Baghdad province as well. Since the new Islamic State car bomb campaign started, the number of those types of attacks has skyrocketed in Diyala. In June, there were just two VBIEDs in the ... more »

New Orleans Charter Caste System

Jim Horn at Schools Matter - 14 hours ago
When the profiteers and venture paternalists moved into New Orleans to patch together their corporate system of schooling in the wake of Katrina, they had an opportunity to break the mold and create a socioeconomically-integrated and diverse system, or to design a corporate welfare system that mirrors the long held hierarchy based on unearned privilege, economic exploitation, and racial oppression. A new report from Stanford outlines clearly which road the corporate reform schoolers chose, and it was not the one less traveled by the predatory pedagogical pretenders. See charts bel... more »

*CNN: **Behind the scenes with the commander of Special Ops* Fort Bragg, North Carolina (CNN)Some days Special Operations missions in international hotspots end in success and accolades, as when SEAL Team Six took out Osama bin Laden. These are the missions that tend to be memorialized by Hollywood scriptwriters and shape the image of Special Ops forces in the minds of Americans. But some days end in tragedy and frustration. "The toughest day that I ever had was when we lost a helicopter with a (Navy) SEAL troop on it and a number of our Afghan partners," said Gen. Joe Votel, the... more »

Unlike Hollywood's, the suit won't give its operator the ability to fly, but the real-life body armor may have one leg up on the fictional version: The military's suit will be... more »

Australia MUST SAY NO to COP21 Climate Treaty

Geoff Brown at The Australian Climate Sceptics Blog - 22 hours ago
Why say “No” to a new UN Climate Treaty? 1. 25 years of Propaganda - The upcoming conference in Paris is the culmination of more than two decades of intensive (and very expensive) propagandizing and fear-mongering aimed at convincing the people of the world (especially in The West) that we must all submit to drastic global controls or face dreadful consequences from catastrophic anthropogenic (human- caused) global warming (CAGW). 2. Bogus ‘science’ collapsing -The Paris conference is probably the ‘last ditch stand’ for the climate alarmists because real ... more »

David Suzuki, on his eponymous website http://www.davidsuzuki.org/david/describes himself as David Suzuki, Co-Founder of the David Suzuki Foundation, is an award-winning *scientist*, environmentalist and broadcaster. and continues: He is renowned for his radio and television programs that explain the *complexities of the natural sciences* in a *compelling, easily understood way.* Compelling easily understood way? O Frabjous Day! =UPDATEDX2=

Michael Turton at The View from Taiwan - 23 hours ago
*Heaven = full rivers and an empty KMT* *"...he wondered, even as the sword came butchering between his ribs, how he had ever thought that the East, whose essence was treachery, could ever stand."* O my. Last night beer and politics. The KMT is now in its death throes, which will likely continue for another couple of election cycles, and those of us who have long supported an independent, democratic, western-allied Taiwan are enjoying every minute of its drawn out exit. In the whole world there's not champagne enough to celebrate this. According to the KMT media organ, the KMT fin... mo
