Toronto-based Euromaidan fascist cult censors web's favorite pianist

Luboš Motl at The Reference Frame - 48 minutes ago
In the morning, several e-mails that I received have shocked me. The pieces played by Valentina Lisitsa, a Kiev-born pianist often nicknamed "web's favorite pianist", have been dropped by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra from a planned concert for an insane reason: because her tweets were critical of the current government in the city where she was born! She was still paid for the concert (a silver lining for her, I guess), told the reason, and threatened for her not to reveal the political motivation behind the censorship. The organizer replaced her with a more politically convenie... more »

Opting out of common core tests: The rest of the story

skrashen at Schools Matter - 2 hours ago
Sent to the Seattle Times, April 6, 2015. Not mentioned in "More Seattle students opt out of new Common Core tests," (April 6) is the fact that the opt out movement is nation-wide: The article mentions only Washington State and New Mexico, but parents are refusing the common core tests for their children in record numbers throughout the country. The article barely mentions why: Opting out is not simply because of a desire for local control or fears of children getting a low score: For many parents, it is because the common core has increased the amount of testing far beyond anythin... more »

*“What’s The Price?”* by Paulo Coelho “Is the price of living a dream much higher than the price of living without daring to dream?” asked the disciple. The master took him to a clothes store. If laundry in your house is anything like laundry in mine, you have lost socks floating all over the place. I have always had this sock jar where I put socks while they wait for their match to come through the wash. It has worked really well for our family, but it is a little plain. Whatever you might say about them, and I'll be penning some thoughts about the campaigns later in the week, this is an impressive effort for a "movement" short on personnel and resource. Ugh. This shouldn't even be a conversation. The R2P folks I meet tend have a strange mix of naivety about the practicalities of

The new event was part of an initiative to promote careers in Russia’s missile forces, and it also reflected another phenomenon: the rising boastfulness about nuclear weaponry in public life here.
