“Some people might wonder what motivates a physics teacher to get up and
talk about religion and world issues. I am not a professional political
scientist or sociologist or theologian. But I am a concerned citizen and a
thinking person. To be a scientist does not mean you have to be a
one-dimensional person out of touch with life beyond the lab. Physics used
to be called natural philosophy. It is a branch of philosophy in that it is
part of the quest for truth. The same thing that motivates me to ponder the

Deck the Halls
Not quite fair to Keynesianism, but fun nonetheless:
One less lunatic on Capitol Hill - Jim DeMint resigns
Surprising almost everyone, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-Crazytown) resigned the
Senate today and announced his move to head up the Heritage Foundation.
Which seems like the perfect fit. Heritage has become the HQ of
conservative lunacy so the severely demented DeMint will fit right in.
Think Progress quickly came up with 11 reasons this should make sane people
happy. All of them good and I could add one more. Jim DeMint is a batshit
crazy, soulless sociopath whose life dream is to destroy governance by
consent of the majority.
Not that he won't still be doing that as head of Heritage but ... more »

Chemical scare is a Smoke Screen for intervention, says Syria
Western powers are whipping up fear of chemical weapons as a pretext to
intervene in Syria, President Bashar al-Assad's government said on
Thursday, after several Western countries said they feared Assad might use

"Syria stresses again, for the tenth, the hundredth time, that if we had
such weapons, they would not be used against its people. We would not

Talking "Fiscal Cliff"
I completely endorse Kevin Drum's smart post today about liberal complaints
about the name "fiscal cliff" for the convergence of a spending sequester,
expiring tax rates, and other things. Drum says, correctly, that it's the
name we're stuck with regardless of what anyone wants at this point, and
also that it's not really all that easy to manufacture this stuff and have
it stick.
Beyond that, the really important point is that in almost every case, what
we call this stuff matters a whole lot less than people think, and probably
not at all.
Remember, there's a real bias here: most o... more »
So much for the age of austerity: Fury as council blows £1m on giant 'Slinky' toy sculpture
The concrete artwork - to commemorate the 200th birthday of Shrewsbury's
most famous son, Charles Darwin - even cost £200,000 more than the iconic
Angel of the North. Shropshire Council had originally planned to pay
£483,000 for the 39ft high statue - which some have compared to a slinky
spring and a cow's spine. But costs have spiralled to more than £1million,
triggering a backlash from furious residents of the market town.

requirement of the principled approach to hearsay:
[27] The principled approach to hearsay evidence focuses on whether
there is some fact or circumstance that "compensates for, or stands in the

first-hand evidence in the court room, namely, that the witness: (1)

Chancellor George Osborne has denied "fiddling" the borrowing figures in

doctors vs jason kenney: the fight continues
The Harper Government continues to scapegoat the most vulnerable among us,
demonizing refugee claimants, denying them due process, forcing them out of
Canada.
Yesterday we heard that four people arrested at the border were part of a
human smuggling ring. Peter Showler, director of the Refugee Forum at the
University of Ottawa and the former head of the IRB, says:
What we are looking at here is people who may very well be valid refugee
claimants who will be in jail for more than six months; people who may very
well be victims of discrimination, if not persecution, and they will have ... more »

Last Monday President Obama reiterated that Syrian use of chemical weapons

military preparing for their use. The government claims to have retaken two

is turning against the Assad regime.

Respect the Traditions of Parliament
Call me a deluded, reactionary fool, oh ye anarchists! But I believe that
our parliamentary traditions are the best chance we've got for achieving
peaceful change. They should be engaged with, worked with, to bring genuine

Justin Amash (R-MI) Rages Against The Machine... For Real, Not The Phony Paul Ryan Way
Not really-- unless they meant Justin Amash's & Tim Huelskamp's jobs
Soon after Alan Grayson was reelected I mentioned to him that now that his
bipartisan pal Ron Paul was retiring, he might look up a young,

Iran tanker signals mask Syria ship movements
Iranian oil tankers are sending incorrect satellite signals that confuse

The two countries are close allies and have helped each other deal with

RoboConduct Unbecoming : To Canada from North Dakota
3 days before polls opened in the last federal election, Elections Canada
officials were using the word "scam" to describe election irregularities,
making this statement from the EC commish throwing in the towel two weeks
after the election even before any investigation is begun all the more
astonishing :
Commissioner of Canada Elections May 16, 2011
"There was no conduct reported that would bring into question the integrity
of the election result overall or the result in a particular riding.
Although misconduct was reported in several ridings, there is no complaint
that it affec... more »
Rule of Law 18: Why Nations Fail
"Why Nations Fail", that's a book title written by Daron Acemoglu and James
Robinson (published 2012, 529 pages). Acemoglu is an economist from MIT
while Robinson is a political scientist from Harvard University.
Yesterday, I attended a half day conference, *Roundtable discussion on Why
Nations Fail* with Dr. James Robinson himself as the main speaker, held at
Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Makati City. The event was jointly sponsored by
the Angara Center for Law and Economics and the World Bank. The room was
full, many people were already standing at the back.

Adolf Hitler on race
Video found via *JewishProblem.com*:
*…I promise you I am quite free of all racial hatred: It is, in any case,
undesirable that one race should mix with other races. Except for a few
gratuitous successes, which I am prepared to admit, systematic
cross-breeding has never produced good results. Its desire to remain
racially pure is a proof of the vitality and good health of a race. Pride
in one’s own race – and that does not imply contempt for other races – is
also a normal and healthy sentiment. I have never regarded the Chinese or
the Japanese as being inferior to ourselves. They ... more »
Congressional Election Stat Porn-- How The GOP Stole The House In 2012
A million more votes were cast for Democrats running for Congress than for
Republicans. When you include third party candidates, Democrats got 49.03%
of the vote for House seats, Republicans got 48.15% and third-party
candidates got 2.81%. If House seats were awarded proportionally the
make-up of the House would be 213 Democrats, 209 Republicans and 13
independents. Instead there are no independents and the Democrats only have
201 seats. The dozen that slipped away, plus the 13 that would have gone to
third-party candidates all went to the GOP, which has 234 seats in the next

Big Brother Denialism
Both presidential campaigns got a lot of negative press this campaign
season for the creepy Orwellian ways they were able to peer deep into the
personal lives of millions of potential voters. The nerve centers of
campaign HQs were sending volleys of synapses into the Great American
Brainpan. I know, because my mind had been getting all jittery over the
perpetual political horse race.
Now, thank goodness, all is temporarily calm and bright in my own little
corner of cyberspace. Blissfully gone are those days when I couldn't visit
a web-page without the grinning face of Barack or the... more »
Shocking Article: Children Assessed For Their Future Tax Value!
Again, I have had many long conversations with my friend and colleague,
Whitewraithe, (www.pragmaticwitness.com) over exactly what ails our world,
and exactly what the criminal Jewish power elite is planning for both our
destruction and our future enslavement. It sometimes is disheartening to
think that these criminals are in the last stages of their plans, and there
is now very little that can be done to stop them from unleashing their hell
on Earth!
I want to share a very important article, that comes from the Pragmatic
Witness website, at www.pragmaticwitness.com, and is entitle... more »
Round Up: Student Remarks about Minister Upset Social Order, Cause Earth to Crash into Sun
*Just picked up a Tokina 100mm macro lens. Sharp and built like a panzer,
I'm going to have a ton of fun with it.*
Well, you'd think the earth was crashing into the sun, anyway. FocusTaiwan rounded
up some of the comments in the media on Tsinghua U's Chen Wei-ting scolding
Minister of Education Chiang for being a hypocrite and a liar who never
apologizes....
The staidly pro-KMT China Times was the most restrained and insightful:
Renowned local writer Chang Ta-chun said the biggest problem of the
students is not that they were being impolite but that it was their "empty"
remarks th... more »
