Illegal immigrants and terrorist suspects with no right to remain in
Britain will be forced out of the country quicker after David Cameron said
he would cut short their appeals yesterday.
The Prime Minister announced plans to speed up government, including
overhauling the system of judicial reviews which lawyers can use to protest
against the government.
The plans were billed as a way of curtailing opposition to new
infrastructure projects but the vast majority of judicial reviews concern
immigration cases.

Sally Bercow has blundered on Twitter again by naming a runaway schoolgirl
whose identity was protected by a court order.
The Speaker’s wife could face a £5,000 fine for contempt of court after
breaching the order which bans the naming of the girl who allegedly ran
away with her teacher to France this year.
Mrs Bercow’s gaffe comes just a fortnight after she used Twitter to name
former Tory treasurer Lord McAlpine following a BBC2 Newsnight report which
alleged a senior Conservative figure from the Thatcher era was a child
abuser.

Two lawmakers urged the Federal Trade Commission on Monday to steer clear

Sandy's impact may be worse than estimated
A recent string of weak economic data suggests the recovery may take a much
bigger hit from superstorm Sandy than first thought, but economists have

Moody's strips France of AAA-rating
Moody's stripped France of its prized triple-A badge on Monday, cutting the
sovereign credit rating on Europe's No. 2 economy by one notch to Aa1 from

Syria: Aleppo declaration raises fear of Al Qaeda-inspired groups joining rebels
Fears of the growing influence of Al Qaeda-inspired groups inside Syria
increased Monday with the release of video claiming the embattled city of

7 killed, 35 injured in water tank collapse in Bhopal, India
Seven persons were killed and 35 others injured when an overhead water tank
collapsed in Saibaba Nagar slum area here in the wee hours today.
The overhead water tank of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) collapsed at
Saibaba Nagar at around 1 AM, killing seven persons and trapping a large
number of others, Bhopal Collector Nikunj Shrivastava told PTI.
A number of slums situated in the vicinity of the large water tank also got
damaged in the incident, he said.

Dengue kills 9 in Peru's Amazonian region
Nine people died of dengue fever in Peru's Amazonian region, an
epidemiology official said on Sunday.
There are 1,400 dengue fever cases in the Ucayali region, located 550 km
east of Lima, said Cayo Leveau, Ucayali Regional Agency's epidemiology
chief.
He added that 40 seriously ill patients will be moved to hospitals in the
capital city.

Mount Rokatenda in Sikka regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), continues to

Paul Peters Jailed for 10 Years for the Madeleine Pulver Collar Bomb Plot
An investment banker who attached a fake bomb around the neck of a
schoolgirl in a bid to extort money from her wealthy family has been jailed
for at least 10 years.
Paul Peters, 52, who was arrested and extradited from the United States in
September last year with the help of the FBI, pleaded guilty to aggravated
breaking and entering, and detaining the teenager for advantage.

due to climate change caused by greenhouse gases, Iowans should brace

eventual winner Al Franken and incumbent loser Norm Coleman. Franken, who

Ten European states agree military air tanker cooperation
Ten European countries agreed on Monday to work together to boost their
military air-to-air refueling capacity, to plug a gap in their defenses
that was exposed by last year's Libyan war.
Europe's air forces have had a shortage of tanker aircraft for years.
During the Libya campaign, European states relied heavily on the United
States for air-to-air refueling, needed to enable fighter planes to stay in
the air for longer.

Day Of Rest
After another restful night in The Trailer Southern Man packed the gym bag
and headed into town to work out and shower and shave and such, then went
to Sunday School, where we had an especially good class. Then he picked up
Teen Daughter from *her* church and met Southern Parents and Southern Son
for lunch at a local BBQ place. Southern Man got a huge sampler with the
intention of nibbling on the leftovers for the rest of the day.

Teen Daughter Arrives
After a restful night in The Trailer (with no alarm!) Southern Man had a
nice breakfast and puttered around a bit and then set off on what would
prove to be a long but fun day.
After errands (both credit unions, the dry cleaner, the office) and
geocaching (a quick three *en route*) Southern Man was once again at the
airport to pick up Teen Daughter, who is spending the entire week. After
many hugs and kisses we made our way to Chick-Fil-A for lunch (her favorite

UN Chief To Meet Israeli And Palestinian Leaders
The UN secretary general will meet the Israeli and Palestinian leaders as
part of a growing effort to stop the ongoing Gaza conflict.
Ban Ki-moon will host talks with Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahi
and Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas this week.
Mr Ban arrived in Cairo late on Monday, where UN spokesman Martin Nesirky

Residents Evacuated After Floods Hit Scotland
Around 100 homes in a Scottish village have been affected by flooding after
heavy rain.
Residents in Comrie, Perthshire, were evacuated from their homes when the
Water of Ruchill burst its banks just before 8am.
Tayside Fire and Rescue Service said about 70 firefighters and 10
appliances were at the scene, including water rescue teams.

Yesterday afternoon, I attended a lecture by Martin Jacques at
Intercontinental Hotel, Makati. The event was jointly sponsored by the *Pilipinas
2020* and the *Center for Philippine Futuristics Studies.* I had the chance

Spain may offer residency to foreigners buying homes
Spain is considering offering rich investors from countries such as Russia
and China the right to settle in return for them buying up property in the
stagnant housing sector.
Spain has more than a million empty homes across the country and is setting
up a bad bank to clean up toxic assets from a housing bubble which burst in
2008.
Foreigners could be offered a residency permit if they buy a property worth
160,000 euros ($200,000) or more, the country's commerce secretary said on

Rioters attack ethnic Somalis in Kenyan capital
Kenyan police fired tear gas to disperse rioters who attacked ethnic
Somalis in the Nairobi district known as "Little Mogadishu" on Monday,
hurling rocks and smashing windows after a weekend bomb attack there killed
nine people.
The violence coincided with the start of voter registration for a general
election in March, adding to security concerns ahead of the first national
polls since 2007 when a dispute over the results fuelled ethnic slaughter
that killed more than 1,200 people and forced some 300,000 from their homes.

Fiscal cliff could push jobless rate over 10 percent: Fitch
The "fiscal cliff" could trigger a second recession in the country's
economy and push U.S. unemployment above 10 percent, ratings agency Fitch
said on Monday.
Fitch said it did not expect Congress to allow the tax and spending cuts,
which have been dubbed the "fiscal cliff", to fall into place given their
"far-reaching effects."
The fiscal cliff would "dramatically affect demand" for transportation
assets, Fitch said.

owned by Nestlé, are so angry with the way the company treats them that
they're doing pretty disgusting things to pollute the water-- not that
Nestlé gives a damn. Nestlé settled a law suit accusing it of using water
under a former trash and refuse dump, and below an illegal disposal site
where human sewage was sprayed as fertilizer for many years. Nestlé paid
$10 million in the settlement but continues to sell the same Maine water

Iran reaches milestone at key nuclear plant
Iran is on the cusp of being able to triple output of nuclear material
that, if further treated, could be used in the core of a bomb, a new UN
atomic agency report showed.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) quarterly update said that
fitting out of the Fordo plant was now "complete" -- despite extreme
sanctions pressure.
Fordo, which Iran only told the IAEA about in 2009, began in 2011 to enrich
uranium to purities of 20 percent, a process that lies at the heart of the
international community's concerns.

Germany expects Turkish request for NATO missiles soon
Germany said it expected Turkey to formally request that NATO missiles be
placed on its border with Syria soon, but stepped back from an earlier
statement that the move was expected on Monday.
"The most important thing is not whether an official request comes today or
in the coming days," German Defence Minister Thomas de Maiziere told a news
conference on the sidelines of a meeting of European Union defence
ministers in Brussels.

Comet cuts further 735 jobs
The insolvent electrical chain Comet is cutting hundreds more jobs, its
administrators have said.
Deloitte said there would be a further 735 redundancies at its head office,
central functions and across its home delivery network.
This is in addition to 330 redundancies already announced. The business had
employed 6,611 people.

Silvio Berlusconi's accountant was taken hostage by armed intruders who
demanded a 35m euro (£28m) ransom from the former Italian prime minister,

Cutting through IDF propaganda: Tanks caught on film lining up to fire haphazardly into Gaza

You'll remember that IDF spokespeople go on and on and on about "conducting
only precision strikes against 'terrorist targets'". However, there are
multiple reports, and now footage, of Israel simply firing haphazardly Gaza
using artillery pieces and tanks. Little difference exists between rockets
fired one way and artillery shells (that actually do far more damage)
firing in the opposite direction. One wonders where MSM objectivity has
gone in during this conflict.

The BBC is institutionally anti-Israel, of that there is little doubt.
Israel is the only Jewish state in the world (albeit one that is over 25%
Muslim in population), so does that make the BBC institutionally
anti-Semitic? I am not sure about this but it is pretty clear that to the
BBC a good Jew is one who doesn't fight back when attacked. The Jews who
died in the holocaust were victims of terror and the BBC support them in

Last month, I took a little road trip with a few friends from the War
Resisters Support Campaign, to welcome a new baby and meet a new dog.
This nice little visit would be unremarkable - if it weren't completely
incredible. We visited the Brockway family.
Not that long ago, no one from the Campaign had met Jeremy Brockway. An
Iraq War veteran, Jeremy suffered from severe anxiety, depression, and

Why The GOP Occupied Texas

It only takes one crook/moron to ruin the reputation of an entire state.
Yes --I am referring to George W. Bush though he is but one crook among
many GOP crooks who 'stole' Texas back in the early 80s. The GOP plans
ahead.
I tire of the 'fashionable' but baseless attacks on an entire state when
for some 100 years, Texas had been liberal, often progressive. Now --there
are some 'conservatives' among Democrats even today. But Texas Democrats

"I'm not anti-Semitic, I am anti-Zionist" - That's the line I see all the
time on Twitter and hear in the media. Well you tolerant people, here's
what Dr Martin Luther King had to say on the matter:
"When people criticize Zionists, they mean Jews. You're talking
anti-Semitism!"
Here's what I wrote about this almost exactly a year ago and here's the
