back-to-back explosions Tuesday at a busy market in Karachi, Pakistan,

The homemade bombs were planted inside a garbage container and attached to

Sheikh and Iqbal Kazmi, a spokesman for the city's emergency rescue crews.

129 inmates escape Mexican prison near U.S. border

A more plausible explanation for the diamonds is that the impacting
asteroid was carbonaceous and the impact horizon reached the temperatures
necessary for diamond formation. I also see little note here of actual gem
quality diamonds which is another reason to leave the deposit undisturbed
all this time.
Whatever concerns that may have existed regarding diamond supply have now
been put to rest. It also goes without saying that similar impacts will

Prophet Cartoons Spark French Protest Fears

*A French magazine is publishing cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in a move
that is likely to inflame outrage among Muslims who have been protesting
against an anti-Islamic film.*
The latest edition of satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo is hitting news stands
today against a background of protests over the crudely made American film
that mocks Mohammed.
The magazine has not revealed what the cartoons will show, but its editor
said they would "shock those who will want to be shocked".

Beijing hints at bond attack on Japan

A senior advisor to the Chinese government has called for an attack on the
Japanese bond market to precipitate a funding crisis and bring the country
to its knees, unless Tokyo reverses its decision to nationalise the
disputed Senkaku/Diaoyu islands in the East China Sea.
Jin Baisong from the Chinese Academy of International Trade – a branch of
the commerce ministry – said China should use its power as Japan’s biggest
creditor with $230bn (£141bn) of bonds to “impose sanctions on Japan in the
most effective manner” and bring Tokyo’s festering fiscal crisis to a head.
