Setting Up Schools to Fail So Corporations Can Profit

Remember that what corporations want is not educated citizens - those are the troublemakers who prevent corporations from killing people and taking over the world.
Corporations want ignorant, obedient drones incapable of thinking for themselves or doing anything but following orders.

The 'Age of Thirst' in the American West
Coming to a theatre near you: the greatest water crisis in the history of civilisation.
By the end of the summer, 2011 was the driest year of the 117 years on record for New Mexico, Texas and Louisiana, and the second driest for Oklahoma.
The states of the so-called Lower Basin of the Colorado River - California, Arizona and Nevada - have been living beyond their water means for years. Any departure from recent decades of hydrological abundance, even a return to long-term average flows in the Colorado River, would produce a painful reckoning for the Lower Basin states.  And even worse is surely on the way. Just think of the coming Age of Thirst in the American Southwest and West as a three-act tragedy of Shakespearean dimensions.

Can GOP sanctions on Europe tank the economy?
Sanctioning European countries for buying Iranian oil will hurt the United States, too.
The National Defence Authorisation Act now contains an amendment by Republican Senator Mark Kirk - supported by many Democrats as well - that would sanction European banks and companies that do business with Iran's Central Bank in order to stop them from buying Iranian oil.
This is a big deal, because Iran is the world's fifth-largest oil exporter, and blocking Iranian oil exports to Europe would raise the price of oil in Europe and in the United States. Kirk's amendment would hurt the US economy at a time when economic contraction in Europe could push the US back into recession. Does fear of the sanctions' economic blowback in Europe make sense? Many Europeans seem to think so.
