My connection was down yesterday, or I would have had my oar in previously on what I find a fascinating thread.
Interestingly, I tried to make a few points at Yglesias' place. Nada : and not the first time.

Let's look at what the world - not the media mindwashers - should be looking at re: Threat first. It isn't that long since the anniversary of Hirshima/Nagasaki so I will pick from people who have real motivation for a clear view.

"2053" - This is the number of nuclear explosions conducted in various parts of the globe.

I noticed back in August 2006 that Global Research had posted an alarming military analysis about the posting of 2 ( ! ) American carrier battle groups at or near the Persian Gulf. It's a small place where a war game even had a result of decimating a fleet using small boats, rockets, etc. a few years back. While that went to 3 ( ! ) carrier groups at one point since, how many are aware 3 small Israeli submarines have been deployed there with nuclear weapons ?
This isn't 'support for the troops' so much as gunboat diplomacy for Iran. Sanctions and the like of this had the Russians declare January 2 1/2 years ago they figured a U.S. attack on Iran was imminent.
There are a shitload of people similarly alarmed, and include those who think Israel will start the ball rolling.
Campaign Against Sanctions and Military Intervention in Iran (CASMII) is a group of academics, students and professionals of Iranian and non-Iranian ...

So we have 'wars' on 2 sides of Iran and a 'withdrawal' that leaves 50,000+ troops behind plus an unnamed number of contractors. I can't improve on Karzai's appraisal of them BTW
But the thread is about 'War in Iraq'. Um. Have you people never heard about 'the Bible in Iraq' ? It's Classified of course : hidden in plain sight like so much. I found it online out in the open myself : just a result of search for the document Rumsfeld quietly transferred to confidential records before he left office.
The URL changed since - but in my sidebar Topical Index under Documents is not only 'Desert Crossing : Post Saddam Iraq', 'Bremer's 100 Orders' destroying Iraqi government infrastructure, and State Department's later assessments of success.
But one doesn't need to get bogged down with all that when there is a quick and snappy rundown from Dick Cheney outlining why not to invade Iraq from when George Bu$h Sr. was president.

The WMD lies about 'yellowcake' : lying all over Iraq, never mind Nigeria, is a mildly radioactive deposit used to make fertilizer. Brewster Jennings was blown and the Middle East Nuclear Threat Desk under Valerie Plame/Wilson destroyed before the invasion of Iraq...never mind Iran. So yellowcake is good for another kind of 'fertilizer' too.
I've posted a number of times various rundowns of scenarios outlining how it is ludicrous to suppose a nation which buys a U.S. made reactor; is harassed and warred on and sanctioned until the time comes that it is worn out ; is getting supplies from a nation with a historic suspicion of nukes in its back yard ( not just Cuban Missile Crisis : Eastern Europe which it occupied for years to keep NATO/U.S. missiles out ) and is carrying on a campaign to rid its neighbourhood of WMD ( Israel ) which it has certified by a program of inspections to show that it is not using technology designed NOT to go 'BANG' to make the things that do : over 4000 inspections to date.
Iraq...is partitioned. Did you notice ? The Kurds have their own country and are conducting low level warfare with Turkey : the PKK knowing what many don't...Kurds are a large minority in the heart of Turkey : Muslim country with sectarian government and long standing NATO ally where the nuke missiles were sited that sparked the ruckus from JFK about Krushchev's Cuban response.
Quite the kick in the pants, if I do say so.For context you'd have to have seen Peter Seller's 'Dr. Strangelove : or How I Stopped Worrying and Love the Bomb'...the closest I ever saw to exposing Curtis LeMay's 'Twisting the Bear's Tail' by flying SAC nuclear armed bombers routinely into Russia.
The returning sorties became UFO's and meteors...moving horizontally.

I saved the best for last.
